When you read media reports on 'human trafficking' or 'sex trafficking'- do you wonder where they come up with  those astronomical numbers of alleged victims? Does it sound a little melodramatic when 'journalists' opine about the hundreds of thousands or millions of 'victims' being exploited by 'evil pimps'? Do you ever question those numbers, or do you believe that the media and academics would never lie to you about such a serious issue- and certainly not your own government? Unfortunately for real victims of real crimes,  far too many people do not stop to think about what the reality would be if those numbers of alleged sex trafficking victims (adult and minor) were based on facts and not on wild 'guesstimates.'

do
the mathMost people do not even know what the US population is... (2010 Census- Males: 154,492,067 Females 159,421,973- YES there undoubted more now, but how many more we do not know) which means that when someone claims that there are between "200,000 to 300,000" minors being trafficked into prostitution EVERY YEAR, and suggests that those 'victims' are 'forced to have sex with 10/ 15/ 25/45/ 60 men per day, 7 days per week' (links to those guesstimates and statements found in the material below) such unsubstantiated statistics would indicate that there are more men hiring underage prostitutes than exist in the entire US... [using 100,000 minors each year x (10 'johns' per day x 200 days per year)= 200,000,000 men... if we use the '200,000 minors' x (10 'johns' per day x 200 days per year)= 400,000,000 men per year- etc.] The more "johns" that abolitionists claim women and children "must have sex with" and the more days it is claimed they are forced to work, the higher the number of non existent men are needed. Polaris Project has claimed that the "estimated number of men a woman or child must have sex with daily" is between 25 and 48... 7 days a week presumably every day of the year...  Even if we have another 25 to 50 million men old enough to hire a 'sex trafficking victim' - there are still not enough men to provide all the minors and adults with 'work.' It would require 912,500,000 men per year for just 100,000 children at 25 men per day- not counting the number of adults engaged in commercial sex. Even if half of those men were repeat 'johns'- where will all those men be found?

As you will see from the graphs and tables in "DO THE MATH"- the numbers of minors in prostitution are a fraction of the adults, which means that for every female minor in prostitution, there are approximately 98 female adults (arrest statistics are currently the only way to do a plausible estimate of persons involved in prostitution and the over three decade analysis of arrests for prostitution show that minors account for only 1.80% of all such arrests from 1981 to 2018). If there are 100,000 MINORS- how many adults would that be? How about if there are  only 9,050 female minors- then there would be about 500,000 female adults, and if each of them had sex with 10 unique 'johns' per day and worked 200 days per year, the number of 'johns' needed to provide all of them with work, would be 1,018,100,000... that's ONE BILLION, EIGHTEEN MILLION, ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND MEN.... where will we find all those men? How will it "end the demand" if the cops manage to arrest only 10,000 'johns' per year out of millions? Or even 100,000? Cops arrest over one million drug users each year and have done so for at least since 1991 and yet... no 'end to the demand' is in sight... more arrests of drug users are made every year, not fewer- and either it means the cops are horribly incompetent (which they may be anyway) or drug users are just not getting the message...

What can sex worker rights activists do to show that these 'guesstimates' are complete fabrications and challenge the prostitution abolitionists and 'victim pimps'? Get out our spreadsheet program and grab a calculator and get to work!
And that's exactly what we've done. You can do the math for yourself, and here is a calculator to get started:

RAPE AND PROSTITUTION ARRESTS
2007 TO 2018

Here are the FBI stats which show that cops don't seem to care that much about victims of rape- people who have actually asked for help and very seldom get justice. Why is that?

2007-2018 Rapes prostitution arrests and human trafficking cases

From the US government to non profit organizations who peddle lies about the alleged epidemic of 'sex trafficking' - everyone has an "OPERATION." So we have our own- and we call it "OPERATION DO THE MATH"- and we used the US Government's OWN statistics and documents to prove that the prostitution abolitionists either cannot add or deliberately falsify their 'statistics' in order to further their agenda to 'eradicate' all commercial sex. No one calls them on their absurd 'numbers'- except us. No, we aren't mathematicians, don't have a degree in 'research methodology,' and are not academics. But none of the research material on our website requires us to have any of those things.

Why? Everything on our site is fully documented with links to the original source. While we are quite aware that the folks at the FBI Bureau of Justice Statistics don't seem to be able to coordinate their statistics- and the numbers in  their tables often conflict with other tables for the exact same 'crime' or data sets- there is no other valid source for this information. If their data isn't good enough to show the statistics of numbers of arrests, crimes and ages of arrestees, then what would be? Yes, there can be political reasons for arresting or not arresting individuals, as well as charging arrested persons with less serious criminal charges (i.e. reducing a solicitation charge to a disorderly conduct charge), but there are currently no other sources for this information. If it doesn't come from a government source, the statistics involving persons of any age or gender alleged to be in prostitution presented by a group or individual can only be 'guesstimates' based on speculation and flights of fantasy, not on 'facts.' So an academic, statistician or mathematician cannot present statistics that are any more 'reliable' or 'valid' than the ones we present on our site. You are free to check ALL our numbers using the links to the government websites- in fact, we highly encourage you to do so. The primary tables we use are # 5 (Offenses known to Law Enforcement- or 'reported crimes') and #69 (arrests by state).

For our sex worker rights activists and allies, we urge you to challenge the 'guesstimates' and 'estimates' given by these agenda driven folks whenever you see the statistically illiterate journalists, 'victim pimps' and even the government citing those incredible numbers - by sending them links to the following pdfs, or by printing out the document in its entirety and mailing it to them, along with a pocket calculator you can purchase from your local dollar store - preferably a red one.

The  2018 FBI Tables, Reports and other documents used to prepare
the spreadsheets on this website can now be found in the Appendix at the end of this page
.

PLEASE NOTE THAT MANY OF THE FBI TABLES DIFFER
IN NUMBERS OF BOTH REPORTED CRIMES AND
NUMBERS OF ARRESTS- FOR THE SAME CRIMES AND  ARRESTS.
SOME FBI TABLES ARE  NOTED AS "ESTIMATED."
IN AS MUCH AS THIS SITE USES SEVERAL DIFFERENT TABLES FROM THE FBI, YOU WILL FIND THAT THERE MAY BE A DISCREPANCY BETWEEN ONE  SET OF NUMBERS AND ANOTHER. PLEASE CLICK THE FBI LINKS SUPPLIED AND USE WHICH EVER SET OF NUMBERS YOU PREFER. THEY ARE NOT OUR NUMBERS. THEY ARE THE NUMBERS POSTED BY THE FBI BUREAU OF JUSTICE STATISTICS.

The following pdfs/ jpgs are compilations of the statistics which can be found in the sections below.
The purpose of these documents is to show the disparity in the numbers of actual victims of 'sex trafficking,' 'domestic violence,' 'sexual assault and rape'  and to ask the following questions:

Why are prostitution abolitionists far more concerned about the fewest number of victims (actual sex
trafficking victims)
than they are about the victims who ask for help or the victims
of the 96% of all child sexual exploitation whose predator is someone the child knows and trusts?

•Why does the government spend so many resources  searching for alleged victims it clearly
cannot seem to find, while ignoring hundreds of thousands of victims of rape, sexual assault and
domestic violence who have asked for help?

• Why, when law enforcement/ prosecutors/ judges have actual predators with sex trafficking victims- predators who are not only alleged to be predators but are  convicted predators such as Jeffrey Epstein-
do they ignore the standard protocols for punishment and reports of new cases against those predators?

SUMMARY  PART III- A 2018 - WHY DO REPORTERS IN EVERY STATE CLAIM THEIR STATE IS A ‘SEX TRAFFICKING HUB’?

IF ARREST STATISTICS CAN’T BE USED TO DETERMINE A MORE ACCURATE ESTIMATE THAN WHAT THE PROSTITUTION ABOLITIONISTS CLAIM- HOW DOES ANYONE FIND THE REAL ‘NUMBER OF SEX TRAFFICKING VICTIMS’ OR EVEN THE NUMBER OF PROSTITUTES IN THE US? WHERE WOULD THOSE STATISTICS BE  LOCATED SO THAT PEOPLE CAN FIND THEM?   UPON WHAT DO THE ABOLITIONISTS BASE THEIR ‘GUESSTIMATES’?

THAT ANSWER CAN BE FOUND HERE: “SEX TRAFFICKING OF MINORS- HOW MANY JUVENILES ARE BEING PROSTITUTED IN THE US” (revised 2017- Crimes Against Children Research Center- Michelle Stransky & David Finkelhor) IT IS CALLED  THE “Woozle Effect”-  The “Woozle Effect” occurs when one writer reports an estimate based on a typically weak methodology or “guesstimate” that is subsequently cited by other writers, but without the first writer’s caveats (Gelles 1980).”

OVERVIEW: Using the FBI Table # 69,  this spreadsheet shows the number of arrests for prostitution (adult and minor) in each state from 2000 to 2018.

Additional tables for this information can be found on the FBI website for "Crime in the United States" for each year under the category "arrests"- although different tables vary significantly in the number of arrests for prostitution. For the purposes of this project, we used only table #69 - state by state arrests.

2013 Part IIIA

2014 Part IIIA

THIS SECTION SHOWS THE NUMBER OF ARRESTS OF ALL PERSONS AND AGES FROM 2000 TO 2018 AND LINKS TO THE STATE BY STATE GRAPH. WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SHOW?
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF MINORS ARRESTED 2000 TO 2018?   16,764
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF PERSONS ARRESTED [FOR PROSTITUTION] 2000 TO 2018? 1,023,777
  • IN 2018, THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ARRESTS FOR PROSTITUTION WAS 25,619  OF WHICH  201 WERE MINORS...

HOW CAN ANYONE EXTRAPOLATE FROM THESE NUMBERS AND COME UP WITH AN 'ESTIMATED 100,000 TO 300,000 MINORS BEING SEX TRAFFICKED EVERY YEAR'?   DO THOSE WHO PROPOSE SUCH NONSENSE EVER USE A CALCULATOR? CAN THESE PEOPLE MULTIPLY?  HOW CAN A CITY BE A 'HUB' WITH SO FEW ARRESTS OF MINORS OR ADULTS? THE NUMBERS ARE GOING DOWN, NOT UP!

SUMMARY PART III- B 2000- 2018 EVERY STATE CAN’T BE A ‘SEX TRAFFICKING HUB’- CAN IT?

FROM PART III-A, USING THE SPREADSHEETS, A GRAPH OF EACH STATE WAS CREATED TO SHOW THE PATTERN OF PROSTITUTION ARRESTS FROM 2000 TO 2018. EACH TABLE BELOW THE GRAPH IS LINKED TO THE FBI TABLE # 69 FOR EACH YEAR.

THERE REALLY ARE NOT SUFFICIENT COPS, PROSECUTORS, COURTS, JAILS OR PRISONS TO HOLD ALL THE PROSTITUTES OR THEIR NON VIOLENT EMPLOYERS, CLIENTS AND ASSOCIATES- EVEN IF THE NUMBER OF PROSTITUTES AND CLIENTS IS NOT THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS - OR EVEN MILLIONS - THAT THE GOVERNMENT, PROSTITUTION ABOLITIONISTS AND ‘VICTIM PIMPS’ CLAIM.

WHY NOT ALLOW THOSE WHO ARE VICTIMS OF SEX TRAFFICKING TO GO TO THE POLICE AND REPORT THE CRIME, JUST AS ALL OTHER VICTIMS OF ALL OTHER CRIMES (OTHER THAN HOMICIDE) ARE REQUIRED TO DO BEFORE THE POLICE WILL CONDUCT AN INVESTIGATION?

IS IT THE OPINION OF PROSTITUTION ABOLITIONISTS AND ‘VICTIM PIMPS’ THAT BEING THE VICTIM OF RAPE OR SEXUAL ASSAULT, OR OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS LESS PHYSICALLY OR PSYCHOLOGICALLY HARMFUL THAN ‘SEX TRAFFICKING’? ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ‘VICTIM’ OF ‘SEX TRAFFICKING’ HAS NOT CLAIMED TO BE A VICTIM OF ANYTHING?

THERE IS NO SEX TRAFFICKING ‘EPIDEMIC‘ IN ANY STATE...   WHAT IS IT, EXACTLY, THAT PROSTITUTION ABOLITIONISTS AND ‘VICTIM PIMPS’  ARE AFTER?

EVEN IF WE WERE ABLE TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF ARRESTS OF PROSTITUTES, ‘PIMPS’ AND ‘JOHNS’ TO THE SAME LEVEL AS WE CURRENTLY ARREST PEOPLE FOR DRUG OFFENSES- BY 94%- WOULD IT “END THE DEMAND”  FOR COMMERCIAL SEX?

IN ALL THE CENTURIES THAT MORAL AND SOCIAL BUSYBODIES HAVE DEMANDED AN END TO THE ‘VICES’ OF MANKIND, NOTHING THEY DID TO THOSE ‘SINNERS’ EVER MADE THEM STOP.

WHEN COPS, PROSECUTORS, JUDGES. POLITICIANS [INCLUDING PRESIDENTS, GOVERNORS, MAYORS, CITY COUNCILMEN, CONGRESSMEN AND SENATORS], SECRET SERVICE AGENTS, PREACHERS, PRIESTS, IMAMS, CEOS, ETC. ARE WILLING TO RISK EVERYTHING TO ENGAGE IN SEXUAL INTIMACY WITH A SEX WORKER, THE ODDS OF ‘ERADICATING‘ PROSTITUTION OR ANY OTHER VICE IS SLIM TO NONE.

THOSE WHO PROPOSE THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO “END THE DEMAND” ARE EITHER COMPLETE AND UTTER FOOLS WITH NO SENSE OF HUMAN NATURE OR HISTORY, OR THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND ARE WILLING TO DESTROY THE LIVES OF SO MANY OTHERS FOR THE SAKE OF THEIR CRUSADE.
NOTHING ABOUT THE “END THE DEMAND” AGENDA IS FOR THE BENEFIT OF SEX WORKERS.

PART III- B QUICK LINKS TO STATE BY STATE GRAPHS OF PROSTITUTION ARRESTS   2000 TO 2018 BY AGE

Summary below each graph for prostitution arrests and reported sex trafficking cases: How does your state stack up for reported crimes solved (by arrest)? Info from FBI Tables #5 and #69 show how cops prefer to make arrests for "criminal activities" where no victim reported a crime... rather than investigate and solve reported rapes, sexual assaults, murders, burglaries, etc. Is it really more important that cops pursue and arrest consenting
adult sex workers and their non violent clients, employers and associates than to pursue and arrest  those perpetrators whose victims ask for help?
The summary documents below each state shows how many law enforcement agents in each state, the percentage of all reported crimes solved and the percentage of reported rapes "cleared." Contains other information on each state including number of reported crimes from table #5 and reported arrests from table #69.

*** PLEASE NOTE THAT THE  PAGES IN THIS SECTION ARE  LINKED TO THE POLARIS PROJECT PREVIOUS PAGES AS THAT IS WHERE THEIR ORIGINAL LIES CAN BE FOUND. THEY NO LONGER MAKE THOSE CLAIMS AND WE HOPE IT IS BECAUSE WE EXPOSED THE FRAUD THEY WERE PERPETUATING. WE HAVE NOT SEEN A RETRACTION OF THEIR LIES, NOR HAVE THEY RETURNED MONEY THEY RECEIVED FROM THE GOVERNMENT TO 'CREATE AWARENESS' OF THEIR LIES, SO WE WILL CONTINUE TO LINK TO THEIR ORIGINAL FABRICATED NUMBERS UNTIL THEY PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR FRAUD.

#1- THE US DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND FBI SAY: “Child Exploitation:  Studies estimate between 200,000 and 300,000 children are being forced into prostitution at any given time in the United States. The average age of a new child prostitute is 13, and the life expectancy after becoming a child prostitute is 7 years.“   http://www.justice.gov/jmd/2011summary/pdf/fy11-fbi-bud-summary.pdf

#2  “Identifying Sex Trafficking in the ED” [Emergency Department] written by ”Jessica Munoz, FNP-BC” [Family Nurse Practitioner - Board Certified] who claims that there are 400,000 to 500,000 children currently being exploited in the U.S.  By “exploited” in this context, she undoubtedly means “as victims of sex trafficking” and not a general ‘exploitation’ of children’ which could be true if she was referring to the “96% of all child sexual exploitation victims at the hands of someone whom the child knows and trusts (2001 Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children in the US, Canada and Mexico” pages 92 and 93) but simply cannot be true of minors involved in commercial sex.

#3 THE POLARIS PROJECT- ALSO KNOWN AS THE HUMAN TRAFFICKING RESOURCE CENTER- thought to be the ‘premiere’ US  and world wide anti- trafficking organization which has the contract with the US Government to  track and document the number of alleged cases of all human trafficking in the US and around the world.

NOTE: POLARIS PROJECT RECENTLY UPDATED THEIR WEBSITE TO REFLECT THE FACT THAT THEY WERE WRONG IN CLAIMING THE AVERAGE AGE OF ENTRY INTO PROSTITUTION WAS 12/ 13/ 14. WHEN THEY WERE PRESENTED WITH THE FACTS (STATS FROM THE FBI) THEY COULD NO LONGER CONTINUE TO USE THAT BLATANT LIE. WE HOPE THAT OUR RESEARCH WAS IN SOME WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CHANGE OF HEART.  HERE IS THE LINK TO THEIR NEW STATEMENT ABOUT THE 'AVERAGE AGE' MYTH: https://polarisproject.org/blog/2018/01/05/average-age-entry-myth

Tell us more about this 'Nordic Model" which gives the cops more power over our lives and bodies...explain how criminalizing our non violent, non abusive clients, employers and associates (against whom we have NOT filed a criminal complaint) is  helping sex workers, actual victims of sex trafficking  or the millions of victims of sexual assault and rape, domestic violence who have ASKED for help and don't get it because there are not sufficient resources available to pursue perpetrators of REPORTED CRIMES?

If you really want to help sex workers, decriminalize all consenting adult commercial sex  and allow sex workers to report any crimes against us.   Don't make the cops our enemies- make them our allies. Maybe they will stop raping and extorting us.

The spreadsheets, graphs and charts in this section cover  38 years’ worth of arrest statistics, were created from the following tables:

PLEASE ALSO SEE THE ARREST STATISTICS FOR PROSTITUTION IN TABLE # 69- WHICH CONTAINS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE ARRESTS THAN THESE TABLES CONTAIN-  SEE SECTION III B PAGE 52 FOR SUMMARY OF 2018 ARREST STATS AS WELL AS SECTIONS  II.
THE DISCREPANCY IS THEIRS, NOT OURS.

Please note that the US government does not recognize trans sex workers in a separate category - arrests are noted as either male or female only and trans women sex workers are noted as males. etc.

BELOW: PART VII- AT WHAT COST THIS MORAL AND SOCIAL CRUSADE?

TO VIEW INDIVIDUAL PAGES, SCROLL DOWN TO "QUICK LINKS"
NOTICE- THIS SECTION HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED. PLEASE USE THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS SECTION TO SEARCH FOR THE 990S FOR NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WHICH CONTINUE TO CLAIM  HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SEX TRAFFICKING VICTIMS EACH YEAR TO RAISE MONEY FOR THEIR NON EXISTENT PROGRAMS FOR ALLEGED VICTIMS. WE DON'T CALL THEM "VICTIM PIMPS" FOR NOTHING! MEANWHILE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO PUMP HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS INTO THE SEARCH FOR  SEX TRAFFICKING VICTIMS... AT THE EXPENSE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS, RAPE VICTIMS, AND VICTIMS OF PEDOPHILE PRIESTS, PREACHERS, TEACHERS, POLICE, BOY SCOUT LEADERS, BABYSITTERS, NEIGHBORS, PARENTS, STEP PARENTS, BOYFRIENDS OF THE MOTHER ETC.

TO VIEW ENTIRE PDF DOCUMENT, CLICK  IMAGE BELOW-PART VII AT WHAT COST

PART VII- AT WHAT COST?- In NYC, it costs approximately $168,000 to incarcerate ONE INMATE for ONE YEAR... If we are going to arrest MILLIONS of 'johns' and sentence them to multiple years in prison  (some abolitionists want to charge 'johns' with 'sex trafficking' and send them to prison for 15 years to life...) what will taxpayers be paying to fund the wet dreams of prostitution abolitionists? If it costs $30,000 per year to incarcerate someone (state by state varies from $20,000 to $50,000 and more), it will cost hundreds of millions of dollars just to incarcerate the 'johns' who actually get arrested- using arbitrary and selective enforcement of the laws.

Those numbers don't include the cost of arresting them, prosecuting them-
or the cost to the real victims of  squandering scarce resources that could have been used to pursue, apprehend, prosecute

and punish those who commit REAL crimes such as RAPE and DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, as well as the 96% of all sexual predators of children who are NOT seeking to BUY the sexual services of their victims... Real victims who ask for help will continue to go without justice, because there simply is NOT enough money in any government budget to help THEM  and carry out this moral and social crusade against consenting adult commercial sex.

UPDATED ON THESE PAGES ARE THE LINKS TO THE NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS OF ABOLITIONISTS WHERE YOU CAN FIND THE SALARIES PAID TO THE EMPLOYEES... WHICH, IN MANY CASES, IS NEARLY THE AMOUNT OF DONATIONS RECEIVED.

***VERY IMPORTANT ***
2017 updated: Sex Trafficking of Minors- How Many Juveniles are Being Prostituted in the US?

HERE IS WHERE IT ALL STARTED WITH THE "300,000" CHILDREN EVERY YEAR  LIES!!!
Above- THE 2013 DALLAS NEWS STORY CLAIMING THAT THERE WERE 300,000 SEX TRAFFICKING CASES IN HOUSTON ALONE EVERY YEAR....
THERE WERE TWO CASES OF PROMOTING PROSTITUTION IN TEXAS... NOT 300,000

Click Below to view the refutation of this claim:

How many sex trafficking cases in Harris County Texas?
At the time of this article there hadn't been a sex trafficking case prosecuted since 2010... there were 2 cases of "compelling prostitution." Not 300,000. Numbers matter.

The abolitionists claim that there are hundreds of thousands of children being sex trafficked every year - forced to have sex with 10 to 48 (in one case, they claim "65") men per day, 7 days a week- but the stats show it is impossible. How many men would it take to provide all those child and adult 'sex slaves' with work?
There are not enough men on the planet to provide "100,000 to 300,000" children trafficked into prostitution every year...
from where would these alleged 'johns' come?
Juvenile prostitutes comprised about 1.81% of all arrests for prostitution from 1981 to 2018, which means if there are 100,000 juveniles, there must be 5,524,862 adults (98.19%).  If the juveniles saw 10 "johns" per day and worked 200 days per year,  that would be 200,000,000 "johns" just for the minors. We would need 11 BILLION 49 MILLION 723 thousand 757 "johns" for the adults... Where will we find them?
*PLEASE NOTE: The numbers on the above table are speculative- using the unfounded claims of the abolitionists of hundreds of thousands of child sex trafficking victims. All other documents on this page containing numbers and on this website are from FBI statistics and are sourced accordingly.
(Sources for the claims about the number of alleged child sex trafficking victims found in the documents directly above)
